Children's Ministry

The civil war in Liberia has had devastating effects on the children. Hundreds lost parents at an early age and many others have been separated from their families. As a result these children were raped, forced into early marriage, prostitution, and made to be beggars in the community.

Every orphan and vulnerable child has potential! It is our desire to see the children empowered and on fire with the love of Jesus Christ. We believe this can change a nation. Mater's Design partners with local pastors by helping them start a children's ministry in their community. We present the Gospel using the Jesus Film (Children's version) and also through skits, drama, puppets, preaching and worship.

Community Development

Today in Liberia preventable diseases such as malaria, diarrhea, worms and mal-nutrition are killing thousands. Our response to the above is three-fold; 1) helping individuals address issues to improve their personal health, 2) helping communities address and identify long-term water, sanitation and agricultural needs, and 3) helping community leaders build partnerships with churches, medical service providers, and other partners to access the resources they need to address the issues that are beyond their abilities.

Master's Design is working in Community 21 in Liberia. There are approximately 8000 people living in an area that was build on a swamp. In order to get rid of the water they filled it with garbage. As a result many are dying from preventable diseases. Master's Design is going to begin teaching 25-30 people on illnesses that affect the community, such as: malaria, tuberculosis, lice, scabies, worms, mal-nutrition, HIV/AIDS, benefits of a clean environment, etc. so they in turn can teach others.

Discipleship

Thousands of children were kidnapped, raped, drugged and forced to kill during the years of war in Liberia. The war is over, but these young kids, now in their teens and twenties, are trying to re-enter society. Although they are free from the bondage as child soldiers, they are not free from the pain and nightmares.

We want to help them break free from the horror of the past. We partner with local pastors who are ministering to over 500 children associated with war through weekly Bible studies focusing on forgiveness for themselves and others, peer pressure, the Father heart of God, and what it means to be a Disciple of Jesus. We also hold three camps a year for children associated with war. The weeklong camps will have extended times of worship, teaching, breakout sessions, recreation, counseling and life skills training.
